How TurfHand handles your information
Last updated September 28, 2026
TurfHand LLC ("TurfHand," "we," "us") is a Nebraska company that makes software for lawn care businesses. This policy covers the turfhand.com website, the TurfHand web application at app.turfhand.com, and the TurfHand Field app for Android. It says what we collect, what we do with it, and who else sees it.
Two different roles
On turfhand.com, and for the lawn care businesses that sign up with us, we decide what's collected and why. This policy is the whole story there.
Inside the software, we hold information on behalf of the lawn care business that uses it: its customers, its employees, its jobs and its invoices. That information belongs to the business, and the business decides how it's used. Each business publishes its own terms, privacy policy and SMS terms, linked from its sign-in page. If you're a customer or employee of a lawn care business, those are the pages that apply to you, alongside this one. We only use the business's information to run the service for it.
What we collect on turfhand.com
- The sign-up form. Your name, business name, email, and, if you give them, your phone number, how many trucks you run, and a note. It comes to us by email so we can get back to you.
- The "Ask the hand" chat. What you type is sent to an AI model provider to write the answer. We don't keep chat transcripts.
- Server logs. Your IP address and basic request details, used to limit abuse and keep the site running.
The site uses no advertising or tracking cookies and no third-party analytics. It only sets what it needs to work.
What the software collects
When a lawn care business uses TurfHand, the software holds:
- Account details: names, email addresses, phone numbers, and each person's role in the business.
- The business's customer records: names, service addresses, property details, quotes, service history, invoices and payments. Card and bank numbers go straight to the payment processor; we don't store them.
- Job photos and notes taken by the crew.
- Work records: clock-in and clock-out times, breaks, hours and pay rates.
- Location, for employees at work. In a web browser, location is recorded when an employee changes a job's status and, while they're clocked in with the page open, every few minutes. In the TurfHand Field app, location is recorded in the background for the whole time the employee is clocked in, including when the app is closed or the screen is locked. It stops at clock-out. The app explains this before asking for permission, shows a notice on the phone while it's recording, and lets the employee see what was recorded. The business can turn location recording off, and an employee can deny the permission and still use the app.
- Camera and notifications. The app uses the camera only when an employee takes a job photo, and sends notifications about their work.
- Messages: texts and emails sent on the business's behalf, and replies to them.
- Sign-in history: when and from where someone signed in, kept for security.
A business's administrator can connect an AI assistant to its TurfHand account. The assistant can then read the business's information, only with the access the administrator granted, and the administrator can disconnect it at any time.
Text messages
TurfHand sends text messages on behalf of lawn care businesses, to customers and employees who have agreed to get them. Each business's SMS terms describe the messages it sends. You can reply STOP to stop them or HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply.
We do not share or sell mobile phone numbers or text messaging consent with third parties for their marketing. Numbers are used only to send the messages people agreed to get.
How we use it
- To run the service for the business it belongs to, and to support it.
- To keep the service secure and find and fix problems.
- To answer people who contact us or sign up on turfhand.com.
- To bill the businesses that use TurfHand.
- When the law requires it.
We don't sell personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Who else sees it
We use outside companies to run parts of the service. They handle information only to do that work for us:
- Cloud hosting and storage
- Text messaging and email delivery
- Payment processing
- Maps, addresses and driving directions
- AI model providers
- Bot protection on sign-up forms
- Accounting software, when a business connects its own
Beyond those, we share information only with the business it belongs to, when the law requires it, or as part of selling or merging the company, in which case this policy goes with it.
How long we keep it
We keep a business's information while it uses TurfHand. When a business closes its account, its information is deleted. Employee location records are removed after the number of days the business sets. Sign-up form details are kept while we're talking with you; ask and we'll delete them.
Keeping it safe
Information is encrypted on the way to us and where it's stored, access is limited to the people who need it, and every business's information is kept apart from every other's. No system is perfect, and we'll tell affected businesses right away if something goes wrong.
Your choices
- If you're a customer or employee of a lawn care business, ask that business to see, correct or delete what it holds about you. We'll help it do that.
- Employees can turn off the app's location permission in their phone's settings at any time.
- For anything you gave us on turfhand.com, email us and we'll take care of it.
Children
TurfHand is made for businesses and isn't meant for children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here and update the date at the top. If the change matters, we'll tell the businesses that use TurfHand.
